Euthanasia advocate to run for Senate

Dr Nitschke has twice run unsuccessfully as a Lower House independent against anti-euthanasia Liberal Kevin Andrews, but he now says his chances of a Senate seat are improved by the fact that he will represent a party — the newly formed Voluntary Euthanasia Party (VEP).

That means his name will go above the line on the notoriously voluminous Senate ballot paper. He has not decided which state to contest, although his party expects to put up candidates in NSW, South Australia and Tasmania.
