Exclusive: Labor pledges to never again freeze Medicare rebates
Labor will never freeze Medicare rebates again if it wins the next federal election, opposition health spokeswoman Catherine King says.
But, in an exclusive interview with Australian Doctor, Ms King said her party was right to halt indexation back in 2013 because it was out of kilter with the annual budget cycle.
With a federal election expected to be called within the next 12 months, the shadow health minister spoke of her desire to open a dialogue with GPs to inform the development of an alternative vision for the long-term future of primary care.
And it won’t just be about maximising bulk billing.
