Experts debate CAM prescribing by doctors

GPs should stay “champions” of evidence-based medicine and not encourage patients to seek unproven complementary treatments at taxpayers’ expense, a senior health professor has warned.

Writing as part of a debate in the Medical Journal of Australia, University of NSW emeritus professor John Dwyer said complementary and alternative medicine’s (CAM) rising popularity was no reason for GPs to make recommendations for patients to take potentially harmful complementary remedies.
