AUSTRALIA'S general practice networks are now on the cusp of developing a stronger, more integrated health system which has general practice and other primary health care firmly at its centre.
After four years of consultation, Australia’s first 19 Medicare Local primary health care organisations have been announced, covering 40 of the network’s existing divisions of general practice. From this small beginning, Medicare Locals can be expected over time to play an increasing role in improving the health and wellbeing of their local populations.
