Face of evil: How Hollywood uses skin disease to create villains

Hollywood is perpetuating prejudice against people with skin disease through its constant use of dermatological conditions to portray ‘bad guy’ characters, dermatologists say

Their analysis of the top 10 movie villains of all time has revealed that 60% have skin conditions, such as scars, wrinkles, verruca vulgaris and periorbital hyperpigmentation.

It is a problem that has persisted from the Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz to Darth Vader in Star Wars, they report in the Journal of the American Medical Association
