Families face average $4100 bill for private health insurance

Australian families could soon be forking out an extra $200 a year for private health cover as insurers lobby the Federal Government for their annual premium hike.

The lobbying has come as ministers defend their decision to freeze Medicare rebates for patients to access GP care until the end of the decade.

The private health insurance increases kick in from 1 April.
