Fatal superbug defeats all antibiotics

Australia appears to have entered the post-antibiotic era according to a report of a patient who died of a gram-negative superbug infection that was resistant to all antibiotics in the hospital armoury.

A 59-year old-man from rural Victoria died from severe sepsis after becoming infected with a carbapenemase-resistant Klebsiella pneumonia (CR-KP) that was not susceptible to any antibiotics including those held as a last resort for severe infections.
