Fee splitting of claim recovery rejected

The recommendation, in a Senate report delivered last week on the Professional Services Review (PSR), said the PSR should be given power to pursue corporate abuse of the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) and Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).

The report also included recommendations that Medicare publish its auditing methodology, and involve a legally qualified person in the PSR process.

The Senate inquiry findings came as the government continued its efforts in the High Court to overturn a Federal Court decision earlier this year that found a number of PSR rulings to be invalid.

Former PSR director Dr Tony Webber welcomed the recommendation regarding corporate rorts, which he said was “well overdue”.
