Rambling speech could provide the first indication of mild cognitive impairment (MCI), according to a team of Alzheimer’s disease researchers.
They conducted an experiment in which 24 healthy, older individuals and 22 people with MCI were asked to create a sentence out of three words.
They found the MCIs were very long-winded compared with the healthy controls.
Lead researcher Dr Janet Cohen Sherman, of Massachusetts General Hospital, says there was a significant difference in the “mean length of utterance” between the two groups.
