First trimester growth linked to CV risk later

Researchers in the Netherlands followed 1184 children with first trimester fetal crown to rump measurements taken between 10 and 13 weeks. To ensure the measurement was an indication of growth and not of age, only mothers with a regular menstrual period and a reliable first day of their last cycle were included in the study.

The children were followed up at six years of age and measured for BMI, body fat ratio and blood pressure and blood samples were taken to measure cholesterol levels, insulin and C peptide concentrations.
