Five proposed S3 advertising rules

The Australian Self Medication Industry (ASMI) has welcomed a TGA request for feedback on proposed changes to advertising regulations for pharmacy-only medicines.

The questions open for discussion mirrored ASMI’s proposed model for S3 advertising, says marketing and business development director Filomena Maiese.

The ASMI model was tested last year through a “discrete” experiment involving 1300 consumers, 500 pharmacists and 500 pharmacy assistants. It assessed the impact of a mock S3 TV advertisement.

The results “made it clear” this type of advertising “positively influenced consumers health-seeking behaviour”, ASMI said.
