Over-thinking and fear of failure stops many perfectionists from achieving their weight loss goal, according to a CSIRO survey of 28,000 Australians.

It shows nine out of 10 adults attempt to lose weight in their lifetime.

Half make more than six attempts and 20% try more than 25 times.

Among the five diet types identified, it's the over-thinkers, or perfectionists, who are the least likely to achieve diet success.
