Flexible sigmoidoscopy screening backed

Including flexible sigmoidoscopy in the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program could boost cancer detection rates, if Aussies could be sold on the procedure, an expert says.

The comments follow a systematic review finding flexible sigmoidoscopy screening halved the risk of death from colorectal cancer in screened compared to unscreened patients.

The procedure also reduced the incidence of colorectal cancer in screened patients by 32%, according to the study
