Folate reduces risk of first stroke: study

Folate has been shown to be protective against first stroke in those with hypertension in what is said to be the largest ever primary prevention trial.

The research carried out in China found daily folate reduced first stroke risk by 21% over five years, lending weight to the practice of folate fortification and suggesting that higher doses of folate may confer greater benefit against such an event.
