Forget going gluten free for heart health

Eating gluten is not unhealthy, and in fact, restricting intake is probably not a good idea for most people, a large study shows.

Only those with coeliac disease are likely to reduce their risk of coronary heart disease by going gluten-free, say the US authors, who analysed data on more than 110,000 healthy adults.
Most people should be encouraged to eat whole grains, they add.
Published in the BMJ, their 24-year study has found that, after adjusting for known risk factors, there is no significant association between estimated gluten intake and the risk of subsequent overall coronary
