Former ABC journalist Maryanne Demasi cleared of PhD research misconduct

She says serious questions need to be asked about the complaints process

Former ABC journalist Dr Maryanne Demasi (PhD) has been cleared of allegations of research misconduct in her 2004 PhD thesis.

Dr Demasi was widely criticised following her controversial 2013 Catalyst episode on the efficacy and health risks of statins, which was condemned for alleged bias and scaremongering.

Questions were later raised over the credibility of a scientific paper she published based on her PhD thesis, titled The effects of hypoxia on cyclooxygenase-2 expression and eicosanoid synthesis.
