Former GP of the Year scoops Telstra Businesswoman awards
Dr Wray, who won the RACGP award in 2011, was awarded the Telstra NSW Business Owner Award at a gala ceremony at the Sydney Hilton last week.
Dr Wray began working as a doctor in Narooma in 1977. In 1994 she co-founded the Lighthouse Surgery, later becoming its sole owner and expanding to a second practice in Bermagui.
In 2003 she founded the Lighthouse Scholarship Fund to assist rural students undertaking tertiary studies away from home and has taken a lead role in educating and mentoring medical students and registrars.
In June, Dr Wray was named a Member of the Order of Australia for her services to rural medicine.
Judges at the Telstra awards said they recognised Dr Wray’s commitment to issues such as attracting young doctors to regional areas and community service activities, such as a literacy program for children in the district.
