Free menopause toolkit for GPs
The Practitioner Toolkit for Managing the Menopause, created by researchers from Monash University, includes a diagnostic tool for premenopause, perimenopause and menopause as well as a compendium of approved hormone therapies.
Professor Susan Davis, from the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Monash University, combined existing research on menopause, diagnostic algorithms and clinical experience to develop the tool for use in a GP surgery.
Professor Davis said the toolkit filled the void of clear guidelines on menopause diagnosis and management and was developed after feedback from patients and doctors indicated “widespread confusion” in determining not only when menopause starts but also in prescribing appropriate treatment for the varying side effects.
