Free rapid HIV test to be rolled out

Victoria will be the first state to roll out free point-of-care HIV testing, in a move experts hope will boost early detection of the virus.

The fingerprick blood test, which gives a result in 20-30 minutes, was formally approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration last month.
Victoria announced Sunday that it would make the test widely available free of charge under a state government-funded trial, in partnership with the Burnet Institute and the Victorian AIDS Council.
