Fresh warnings over 'fit to exercise'

Medicolegal experts have issued fresh warnings to GPs over ‘fit to exercise’ certificates, in response to the launch of a new form touted to ease liability fears.

Fitness Australia announced this month that a new pre-exercise screening questionnaire was circulating to gyms and fitness professionals, which would “ease liability fears among doctors over ‘fit to exercise’ certificates”.
But Sarah Dahlenburg, director of medicolegal and employment relations with AMA NSW, rubbished the claim, saying the paperwork would protect gyms, not GPs.
