Funding for medication management initiative approved

Calls for pharmacists to become more integral to medication management by the elderly are starting to come to fruition with the announcement of a new Victorian initiative.

The Victorian Government has accepted a recommendation from its Health Innovation & Reform Council to establish a Quality Use of Medicines project that would see pharmacists, GPs and nurses engaged in improving medication self-management by consumers taking multiple medications.
With a commitment of $57,685 to a pilot study, the project would see referrals from GPs to pharmacists
