GDM is just the beginning

WHEN it comes to the management of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), few medical practitioners would disagree with German-American physician Dr Martin H. Fischer that “a diagnosis is not the end but the beginning of practice”.

The question of how and when to diagnose GDM, however, is not so glibly answered, as evidenced by continuing debate among experts over the scientific validity of new, lower diagnostic and treatment targets.
