General practice centre stage in Qld election

A Liberal National Party promise to work with local GPs to ensure patients get timely access to specialist care was welcomed by the RACGP last week, but pilloried by Labor health minister Geoff Wilson.

LNP leader Campbell Newman said, if elected, his party would spend $4 million to “increase engagement with GPs through GP liaison officers at [20] targeted public hospitals” and $12 million to provide up to 40,000 specialist outpatient services in the first 12 months.
