Give patients their test results, GPs urged
A medicolegal expert is warning GPs of their responsibility to follow up with patients about clinically significant test results, as figures suggest a failure to do so accounts for a large proportion of claims against GPs.
According to data from MDA National, since 2000 about 45% of claims against GPs involve an allegation of diagnostic error.
Dr Sara Bird, the firm’s medicolegal and advisory manager, said research also showed that the most common diagnostic errors were:
