Glut of doctors forcing GPs to “chase” patients

An oversupply of GPs, driven largely by a continuous stream of IMGs, is hurting patient care and leading to soaring health care expenditure, a think tank says in a controversial new report.

Competition for patients among an ever-increasing number of GPs will keep bulk billing rates steady even as the Medicare rebate freeze continues to bite, the Australian Population Research Institute says.
