Good health reform takes many years to achieve

They have been the intellectual endeavour of health policy developers whose intent was to provide the best quality health service possible. Well researched and evidence based, these policies were often replaced by politically motivated alternatives that seemed to avoid rational explanation or reason or evidence base.

For many years, rural health was a ‘no-go zone’ for good evidence-based research. In the ’80s, ’90s and ‘noughties’, workforce recruitment was a priority, social determinants of health were explored, and lately workforce retention was explored.
