Government slammed over attempt to block alcohol labels

Senior lecturer Paula O’Brien contrasted our government’s objections to the proposed warning labels to its parallel attempts to introduce plain packaging laws for tobacco, in an article in the Drug and Alcohol Review.

She said Australia was relying on an article of the World Trade Organization’s Technical Barriers to Trade agreement in its attempts to block the warning labels, while “confronting exactly the same arguments about its tobacco plain packaging legislation”.
