Govt to raid GP program

The incoming head of the RACGP has condemned government plans to raid prevocational GP training funds to pay for 100 new internship places next year.

In a bid to stop Australian-trained graduates moving offshore, the Federal Government announced last week a one-off offer to create 100 extra intern places for the 180 graduating international students likely to miss out on a spot in 2013.

The eleventh-hour announcement is the culmination of months of warnings from doctors' groups of a looming internship crisis as a result of the failure
