Govt's 25% pay cut will force town's only GP to quit

A solo remote GP says she can no longer work in the town where she has practised for about 20 years after the state government effectively asked her to take a pay cut of 25%.

Dr Susan Andersson, who works in the remote SA town of Hawker, which has a population of just a few hundred, says she is one of about 10 solo remote GPs left in the state.

She says that under her old contract, she kept 100% of her Medicare billing, but the new contract offered by Country Health SA, which runs the hospital that owns her practice, wanted a “contribution” to cover the practice’s overhead
