Govt’s new drug-testing regime hard to implement: expert
If you listen to the Federal Government talk about its plan to drug test welfare recipients, it is not about humiliating the poor or finding news ways to cut welfare payments.
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull declared the policy is “based on love” — it allows the government to help illicit drug-takers to quit their habits and live new lives free from (illicit) drugs.
And that seems to mean the medical profession will have to be involved.
From January 2018, about 5000 new welfare recipients in three locations will be tested for cannabis, methamphetamines and ecstasy.
