GP appointed as Dutton’s new Chief Medical Officer
The role had been vacant for 10 months

A rural GP has started work as Chief Medical Officer responsible for the health of asylum-seekers in Australia’s immigration detention centres.

Dr Parbodh Gogna (pictured), a rural generalist doctor from Queensland, has been named as the new CMO and Surgeon-General with the Department of Home Affairs.
He is a former medical director of International Health and Medical Services, the contractor that provided healthcare for the Christmas Island Detention Centre, and a former medical superintendent of the Capricorn Coast Hospital in Yeppoon, in Queensland.
