GP benzo scripts row - the RACP responds

The physicians' college has defended its proposal to restrict GP benzodiazepine prescribing, saying all doctors have a duty to prescribe appropriately and "say no" to pushy patients.

Professor Paul Haber (pictured), president of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians' Chapter of Addiction Medicine, was responding to the furore on Australian Doctor's website, triggered by the college's claim that scripts for longer than three weeks should have to be authorised by "an appropriate specialist".
