GP colleges given task of picking new GPs

The two GP colleges will be handed the job of selecting doctors for the GP training program. 

Federal Health Minister Sussan Ley (pictured) made the announcement at the GPRA conference in Brisbane earlier this month, saying she wanted to give the RACGP and ACRRM a “greater role”. 

The task of selecting GP registrars used to rest with General Practice Education and Training, but since the organisation was scrapped in 2014 as part of a cost-cutting exercise, the task has been managed by officials in the
