GP 'conned' by drug dependent patients

A Sydney GP has admitted prescribing opioids to patients with a history of drug addiction, claiming it was because she was “overcompassionate”.

The NSW Medical Tribunal found Dr Katherine Nemeth guilty of professional misconduct, after prescribing drugs including oxycodone, morphine and benzodiazepines to 28 patients at medical centres in Penrith and Parramatta between 2006 and 2008, without investigating whether they had a history of substance abuse.
