GP diabetes care cuts hospital admissions

Patients with diabetes have a one-third lower rate of hospitalisation if they receive regular diabetes-related care from their GP, Australian research shows.

A strong relationship with a general practice was linked to 30% lower hospitalisation rates for diabetes patients who attended GPs providing management such as annual diabetes cycles of care as required by the Practice Incentives Payment scheme, according to results released on Friday by the Sax Institute in Sydney.
