GP disciplined for untrained cosmetic procedures

A MELBOURNE GP who admitted enlisting her receptionist to help with liposuction procedures on intravenously sedated patients has been banned from performing the procedures for two years.

Dr Usha Devi Venkataraman was also fined $2000 and ordered to undertake further training by the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal after admitting to unprofessional conduct of a serious nature.

The orders related to procedures performed by Dr Venkataraman on three patients between May 2005 and October 2006, during which she performed liposuction and administered intravenous anaesthetic without another appropriately trained
