GP gives discount to non-smokers

A solo GP in rural NSW has sparked patient outrage by charging smokers $10 more than non-smokers for a standard consultation to encourage them to quit.

Dr John Goswell, a GP in Lochinvar in the Hunter Valley, made headlines on Tuesday after an angry patient went to the local newspaper.
“They told me I had to pay $66 if I was a smoker, but if I was a non-smoker I would only pay $56,” local resident, Joanne Dennis said, claiming it was “discriminatory” and “judgmental”.
