GP opportunistic screening best for type 2 diabetes

Universal screening programs for type 2 diabetes cannot be justified and opportunistic screening by GPs is the best approach, Australian experts say.

Their comments follow three Scandiavian studies that showed primary care screening for type 2 diabetes made little difference to population rates of cardiovascular disease or early death compared with no screening.
