GP photo captures laughs for life

FOR Dr Fiona Millard, the theme of this year’s Doc Art Festival, ‘Laughter is the best medicine’, has nothing to do with being silly.

“That’s a very Australian thing,” the Queensland GP and keen photographer said.

“Laughter [in] other cultures, it’s not a silly thing. It’s a very heartfelt, soul-centred exchange.”

That attitude stems from Dr Millard’s biggest creative inspiration – her father. He introduced her to photography with his careful documentation of his Middle East posting in World War II.

“His war experiences were captured beautifully,” she said. “All the way through life [his] experiences are documented with photography.”

Dr Millard’s entry to the Doc Art Festival, organised by the AMA (NSW) Creative Doctors Network, was taken on a trip to Japan where she was attending a conference and visiting her son.
