GP plans cut diabetes hospitalisations
GP management plans for diabetes cut the likelihood of older patients ending up in hospital for diabetes complications by 22%, researchers say.
The retrospective study compared the outcomes for 8091 patients with diabetes given a management plan under a Department of Veterans’ Affairs scheme with 8123 patients with diabetes who were not given a plan.
It found that 6.7% of those with a management plan were hospitalised for diabetes complications within a year of a GP writing it.
Of those without a plan, 7.8% ended up in hospital for diabetes complications within a given 12-month period.
