GP warning over OTC erectile dysfunction drugs

Australia should learn from New Zealand before making erectile dysfunction drugs available without a prescription, say doctors from across the Tasman.

The TGA is to consider rescheduling vardenafil (Levitra) from prescription-only to over-the-counter status at the next meeting of the Advisory Committee on Medicines Scheduling in November. 

Bayer, the drug's sponsor, says vardenafil has a good safety record and can be safely offered to patients by retail pharmacists who have undergone some training.
