GP's concern breaches patient's privacy

A GP who inquired about the wellbeing of a patient’s daughter has been found in breach of health privacy legislation but escaped a $50,000 compensation claim.

Dr Mary Belfrage, medical director of the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service, said she was merely seeking to offer her support to the family, several members of whom she regularly consulted, when she asked the mother about her daughter.
