GPs do $15,000 of unpaid work

The Bettering the Evaluation and Care of Health (BEACH) survey of 978 GPs, presented at the RACGP’s GP13 conference in Darwin last week, found they had done out-of-consult work for which they could not claim a Medicare rebate or any other kind of payment in relation to 12.2% of patients.

And the amount of unpaid work by GPs is only going to increase as the population ages and a higher proportion of people need treatment for complex chronic conditions, according to the authors.
