GPs on guard as flood emergency continues
The State Emergency Service (SES) has reported that 1800 residents of the town of Wee Waa and about 200 rural properties around Moree have been isolated since yesterday.
Practices have so far been unaffected – aside from the inconvenience of having roads cut off – but will remain on high alert until the floodwaters recede.
“Fortunately we’ve got several doctors who actually live in town, and all the problems of the weekend have been covered,” Moree GP Dr Scott Finlay told MO today.
“But the real problem is the hundreds of properties around that are cut off. They’re getting air drops and support from the SES.”
With more rain forecast for Wednesday, Dr Finlay said some locals were predicting the region to record as much as 100 mm.
In Wee Waa, about 40 km from Moree, Cathy Conomos, practice nurse at Wee Waa Medical Centre, said it was business as usual for the
