GPs not providing ‘alternate duty’ sick notes: study

Some injured workers are missing out on medical certificates from GPs that provide for a graduated return to work or alternate duties after time off, Victorian research shows.

Only one-third of sick certificates written by GPs are alternate or modified duties (ALT) certificates, with the majority of workers in Victoria receiving unfit for work (UFW) certificates, suggests a study of almost 120,000 work compensation cases.
