GPs or pharmacists - who are more ethical?

Latest Governance Institute ethics survey reveals what people think of healthcare professions

Australians believe GPs are more ethical than pharmacists, according to the latest Governance Institute survey.

GPs were second in the national survey of 1000 people, which again voted nurses the most ethical profession.

But GPs were two spots ahead of pharmacists, in fourth place.

And they came out on top when it came to individual professionals, with Australians regarding GPs the most ethical professional they encountered, ahead of pharmacists and their local hospital.

The institute asked participants to rank professionals and organisations on a five-point scale from very unethical to very ethical.

Here are some of the key results:

Most ethical health professions

  1. Nurses
  2. GPs
  3. Vets
  4. Pharmacists
  5. Dentists
  6. Ancillary service providers
  7. Funeral directors
