GPs to refer for breast implant scans

GPs are being asked to refer women with potentially faulty breast implants for an MRI scan as part of a new Federal Government Medicare program, introduced to manage the Poly Protheses Implant (PIP) saga.

Under the 12-month program GPs can refer concerned women with PIP implants for a Medicare funded MRI to determine if their implant has leaked or ruptured and needs to be removed.
Only women believed to have PIP implants can be referred - around 13,000 PIP implants
