GP’s scabies treatment works

Dr Buddhima Lokuge spent two years with his family working in remote Indigenous communities in East Arnhem Land developing a chronic care model to treat sufferers of crusted scabies, an extreme form of the skin condition characterised by hyperkeratotic skin crusts and mite loads of a million or more in those infected.

Patients with crusted scabies are often affected for life and serve as carriers of the disease for others within their households and communities, with children most likely to experience recurrent infections.
