GPs should ... prepare vulnerable patients for surviving a natural disaster

Academics are urging GPs to identify patients at risk of natural disasters to help them build "disaster resilience".

A paper in the Australian Journal of Primary Health says that GPs are ideally placed to support patients, noting that Australia is enduring frequent and more severe disasters as a result of climate change.

“There is a clear need to focus of strategies to improve disaster resilience among vulnerable groups," they write.

"As the majority of vulnerable individuals are likely to consult a GP, GPs are ideally placed to refer patients to community and
