GPs slow to take up telehealth
GP uptake of the Federal Government’s telehealth initiative has got off to a slow start, with just over 2000 Medicare items claimed for video conferencing in the first six months of the initiative.
Medicare data shows that a total of 2285 MBS items were claimed for GP consultations with a specialist using video conferencing between 1 July and end-December last year.
In contrast, video consultation by specialists, consultant physicians and psychiatrists hit 4548 – double the GP figure.
